  • technical data you provide when visiting our website, such as your IP address, the device used to visit our website and the pages you view; and
  • all other personal data that we obtain from you directly or indirectly.

Purposes and legal bases for processing

Your personal data is processed for the following purposes:

  • providing our website;
  • registering an account on Huurzone and using Huurzone’s services, including features such as notifications of new properties or displaying properties tailored to the search profile you provided;
  • responding to advertisements on Huurzone and communicating with landlords;
  • placing property advertisements on our website and contacting property seekers;
  • communicating with you when you contact Huurzone;
  • sending digital newsletters and carrying out other online marketing;
  • improving our website and Huurzone’s services; and
  • complying with statutory obligations, such as record-keeping and retention obligations.

The legal bases for the processing purposes listed above are:

  • the consent you have given;

  • compliance with statutory obligations; and
  • the pursuit of legitimate interests of Huurzone or a third party.

Legitimate interest

Our legitimate interest in processing your personal data may be that we require your data to communicate with you, for marketing purposes or to improve our services.

Retention period

Huurzone does not retain your data for longer than necessary.

Account on Huurzone

In principle, Huurzone retains your data for as long as you have a Huurzone account. If you have not logged in for a period of one (1) year or longer, the account and its associated data will be deleted.

You can, of course, delete your account yourself at any time. After an account is deleted, we automatically apply a fourteen-day cooling-off period during which the data remains available so that the deletion can be reversed. If you would like Huurzone to delete your data immediately, you can submit a request to Huurzone. Please see the section of this Privacy Statement concerning your rights as a data subject.

If you have completed a contact form on Huurzone’s website or contacted Huurzone in another way, we retain your data for as long as necessary in view of the nature of your question, request or complaint. Your data is then archived for a period so that it remains available if you contact us again.

Our website uses log files in which access data for pages visited is stored. For more information, please see the section on Cookies in this Privacy Statement. Log files are automatically destroyed after three (3) months.

Your rights

Under applicable law, you have various rights in relation to the processing of your personal data. These rights are listed below:

  • Right of access: the right to inspect the personal data concerning you that Huurzone processes.
  • Right to rectification and erasure: the right to have your data amended or even deleted if the data is no longer accurate or the processing is no longer justified.
  • Right to object: the right to object to certain processing of personal data on grounds relating to your particular situation. We will always honour an objection to processing for direct marketing purposes, for example.
  • Right to restriction: if you dispute the accuracy of the data, you have the right in certain circumstances to restrict the processing of your data. In short, this means that Huurzone temporarily freezes the processing of the data.
  • Right to data portability: the right to receive the data concerning you that we store in a commonly used, machine-readable format or to request that it be sent to another controller.
  • Withdrawal of consent: you have this right insofar as we process your data on the basis of your consent. You may withdraw consent already given at any time. We will then stop the processing immediately.

You can exercise the rights listed above free of charge, except in cases of abuse. You can exercise these rights by contacting us using the contact details at the bottom of this Privacy Statement. We will answer questions and requests within one month. If responding to your specific question or request unexpectedly requires more time, we will inform you within that period. For questions and requests concerning the processing of personal data, we may ask for further proof of your identity. This is to prevent us from providing your personal data to the wrong party or making incorrect changes to your data.

For completeness, please note that most of the rights described above are not absolute. There may be circumstances in which we cannot comply with a particular request. If so, we will explain our reasons.

The right to object to the use of data for direct marketing and the right to withdraw consent are both absolute. We will therefore always honour the exercise of these rights.

Disclosure to third parties

Landlords

If you respond to an advertisement through Huurzone, we make that message and your contact details available to the landlord. This enables the landlord to contact you, for example to arrange a viewing or answer questions. You decide which information you share with the landlord.

Other disclosures

As a rule, we will not disclose your personal data to third parties unless this is required and permitted by law. One example is a request by the police for your personal data as part of an investigation. Huurzone always examines the extent to which it is actually required to cooperate with such a request and ensures that the disclosure is limited to what is strictly necessary.
